I guess when you don't have an opinion, or if you just don't need anything from anyone it's easier...

Every time I avoid a conflict I loose something. Every time I choose to clear up that same conflict, I still loose again... How do you do it?
I guess that the people who bend more are the ones more agreeable to everyone.

Wish!


Interesting... we know this already, but it's good to remember.

Here are 14 things I learned from my experience attending Vipassana:

1. There is tremendous clarity to be found in silence.
2. We talk far more than is necessary.
3. We become lost and caught up in the sound of our voice and the voices of others.
4. If we practiced more self-awareness we would remain more aware of the true intention behind, and power of our words, which would allow us to speak less, hurt less and give more.
5. Slowing down is the only way to experience now.
6. Now is a feeling, a sensation, a presence that is tangible if you slow down long enough to feel it.
7. Extending goodwill and loving kindness to all beings is fostered through experiencing your true nature.
8. To cling to or try to control anything is futile, let go and allow life to unfold natural.
9. Trust in the universal, natural law; Dharma.
10. To hold on to anger, fear, hurt, resentment, pain or ill will only causes suffering – everything arises and everything passes away.
11. To stand with strong determination in a place of Metta (loving kindness for all beings) will not make you a doormat, rather it will provide you with the strength and clarity necessary to take right action.
12. You are the master of your own mind; give yourself the gift of experiential wisdom.

I wish... to become more positive. How?

If you're developing some negative attitude about yourself, your friends, your lack of motivation, your job, if everything just seems like it’s pointless and most people just look like their acting against you, on purpose, hey, step back right now!

Breathe deeply 2 or 3 times...

Life simple events can take us back too some unsolved teenage years mild depressions, and the symptoms that warn you that you’re slowly going down that dark spiral, actually show up in a very subtle manner. You might not even be aware of them... It starts with wasting time on things that are not important, but keep you busy. From watching too much TV, to cleaning your room or house too many times and spending too much time in the internet, following link after link, detouring from what you need to do in order to get want you want, to eventually not wanting to make plans with your friends, or even wanting to go out.

Yep, you’re mildly depressed, and you’re building up a negative perspective on life. And it will become a bigger problem for you, and for everyone around you, if you don’t cut off those feelings or sensations NOW.

Ok, right now you got that sparkle of Hope. You’re thinking, Yes! I want to stop feeling this way right now! Yes, I know that I just have to go out and fight for having fun, do some exercise, visit a friend, plan something for tonight, start looking for ways I can become better at my job, school, etc.

But, it won’t last will it? Nop, we all know that those thoughts are just that flickish sparkles of Hope, that will last until you finish this text and then you'll go back being kind of sad again.

So what can you really do? Really, what can you do that will bring back the normal you, a satisfied you, a “I’m-cool-with-life-just-the-way-it-is” you?

1- Start by appreciating what you have right now. There has to be something good in your life. Go simple. The air you're breathing? Computer? Internet! There’s someone (me) feeling just like you, so you’re not alone... There are many things to feel grateful for. So practice gratitude.

2- If you want to become positive you have to act positive. Whatever if it starts with a fake smile. Make believe you’re the zen master of happiness and calm. Think how calm and positive you are (pretend, sing "oh yes I'm the great pretender!"); Think how wise and spiritual your are (imagine you’re wonderfully witty about everything); Think that because you’re feeling so good you can actually help others! (when you focus on others, you forget about your own problems, and they won’t hunt you back, eventually everything just passes, so go head and forget about you for a bit).

3- Think of your problems right now as challenges. Imagine yourself as being the only person in the island. No one to call for help. You, and just you, have to figure out what to do next.

4- Meditate. I can’t stress this enough. Meditation is amazing. There are so many guided meditations out there. Try it. It changes your brain waves. You'll become more aware and calm.

5- End all the drama around you! Maybe it’s on TV, dump it. Maybe it’s a negative friend who won’t try to change like you’re trying, ask for some time off. It’s on the news, choose what you want to know about. Do you think knowing about unemployment ratings is going to help you find a job??? Hello! Build your own story. Yes, there is a financial crisis, but there are also people just like you who are looking to join up and do something cool, making money in a creative and heart felted way instead of just doing what they’re told! Be your own news reporter.


So go ahead and make a commitment towards yourself. Yes you’ve made mistakes in the past and you wish you could run back to fix things, but you can’t. Accept that, because staying in that mood won’t prevent you from making the same mistakes again. So commit, find something to remember the choice you’re making and cary it with you. Notice when your acting like a bitch, or a bastard, and make the shift! Notice and choose.

I really believe dreams can come true. I was very close to some of them but because of fear I chose let them go. Yah, I chose. Don’t want to make that mistake again or waste my life just wishing. Come on, let’s commit.

Getting the speed

Most of the time it's better for our mental sake to do things thoughtfully, slowly, with peace. But other times it’s necessary to put all the learning and experience to the test.

Every time I gave 100% I did crash, but because I wasn’t ready. I hadn’t practice to “the test” so my mind came in stronger and faster than my body. Consequently I fell.

So we must practice.
Practice focusing in something for a good amount of time, practice to be calm around chaos; practice thinking thoroughly before speaking or acting; practice quieting the mind to listen to our intuition and instincts. Practice to be better.

And then, we must push ourselves to step outside our comfortable area.
That means, not trying to control what’s going around us, and keep all the previous learning well present in our mind state.

That means following your inner voice, strength and nature towards another route, a higher speed, a different intensity, tone, adventure, a different perspective, a new attitude; finally giving that courageous step you were dreaming about.

You’ll be on the verge of crashing, but, and there’s always a but, you’ll grow from finally learning to follow your instinct. You’ll be more alive, more in tune and more passionate than ever. Adrenaline will kick in and you’ll build the confidence to inspire and create.  Aren’t we here for that? To overcome?

Despair and Rise

Despair is the complete loss of Hope. A deep discouragement and loss of faith about one's ability to find meaning, fulfillment and happiness...

... "one's ability"

Today I truly feel hopeful and grateful for living because two days ago I felt the exact opposite: despair.

despair for wanting to die, but thinking how selfish of me to wish that;
despair for thinking that all I’ve learn and experience had absolutely no use or truth;
despair for not being able to heal my sadness, my mediocrity; my faults...
despair for knowing that I have all I need, and still am not capable of striving for this wonderful energy I own to build and create;

I felt all this because of a tiny episode in Life, that brought up to surface too many of my insecurities, all at the same time, and I asked myself, too deeply: who am I? what am I doing with my Life??? what have I chose!

I’m always searching for meaning in things, that’s how I am. I’m hypnotized by details, stories and connections. I derive from believing that everything is intertwined with everything. I’m addicted to strong feelings. I’m addicted to the verve of Music, Art, Love...

... so when I feel empty of connections and meaning, when I've mixed all my colours and got grey, I get in that dark space I’ve always had in me and I despair. I remember how much I miss people and places, and how I’ve failed big time in making the right choices. The only thing I’ve learned is that all my wrong choices were made out of fear, but that lesson is yet to be assimilated, for I still haven’t learned how to conquer that fear.

But I’ve been slowly getting to understand that things do have a way to work out. Somehow the Universe plays with things in way that, what I want or wish, comes my way and eventually comes true. Although, what I wish, most of the times, it’s not what I really need.

So after the pain and loss are accepted and are not there anymore, anything outside of yourself just seems to be wonderful. You get a more sensitive view of the world and you see other people’s fragilities, you see how everything has some natural law behind it. Maybe you don’t see yourself with that gentleness, but you’ll start feeling as part of it, and you’ll start accepting your own nature.

We need these “hits”, these asphyxiating moments, to break tightness and continue learning. We call them “wake up calls”, and that’s exactly what they are. Wake up your conscience! Are you writing a story worth reading, or have you fallen asleep over the desk?

I do wish for changes to happen. The story I’ve been telling my self is not fulfilling me, but I can’t destroy in order to create. I’ll burn the entire city of Rome as Nero did, and what will I have left? Burned corpses and a dump of waste. Change is possible, and these despairing moments we live, are our wake up call to think in a different way, to abandon old beliefs and begin the same path we’re going but with a different attitude. Things will come your way, so let things be, and instead of choosing pain, hurt, anger, remorse, choose Love, Kindness, and Compassion, towards others, but foremost, towards yourself.

So, begin with meditation (or prayer), and feel yourself connected with the outside world. Your breath, your skin are in constant exchange with the outside world. Go further away and think of the floor your seated on, the grass, the river, the sky, think that all is part of you, and you're part of all.
 
Then connect yourself with who you would like to become. Happier? Stronger? Calmer?
How is your life being lived when your feeling complete? What's around you, what are you doing?
 
From there, plant an intention, a purpose. 
Think, I wish... and imagine yourself making that wish come true. Imagine all the feelings, sensations, thoughts you would have when your wish comes true...
 
Hey, but there's one thing! you'll become busier, and with a lot more to do, but that's why we're living. To keep balance in the world's constant growth. We're not here to be stuck in the same old routine, exchanging nothing between us and the world outside. So prepare yourself for some hard work after your intentions, but be glad for that. It means you're trully living your Life's purpose...

Who am I?

What great question that is. Grammatically simple, easily understood but as powerful as a heart felted affirmation. “Who am I?”

I’m the inside and the outside. I’m asker and the guesser.
I’m the feeling, the emotion, the sensation, and the thought, but also the doubt, the fear or the denial.

So, “Who am I” has in itself the answer, for it is simply “I am”.

All we are, is all we have, so we can be and strive as anyway we envision, but sometimes, so many times, we don’t understand the power of that affirmation: I am (or I can)

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing, the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

Say it out loud and feel how it resonates with your soul: I am
(in ancient greek am= love; eu (I) = well, good; I am that I am = I will be what I will be)

So when we ask “Who am I”, we “Become”, but to “Be” their must exist meaning in that.

People who loose meaning in their life, recurrently choose to end it. They loose purpose, they become hopeless and think that there is nothing more to expect from life, nothing to live for.

So, the greatest task in any person’s life is to find meaning in his or her life. That task is each person’s own responsibility.

Freedom doesn’t come from the outside conditions. Just because you’re lost in a field of flowers, doesn’t guarantee your mind is free, but when you stand towards the conditions, when you stand proud, meaningfully and with gratitude for being in that field, then you experience true freedom.
